Easy to handle, comfortable, but it's weight makes this bike difficult to accelerate quickly.

I ride 60-90 miles a week for fun/fitness. I am 35 years old and just started riding since High school. I would recommend to anyone who is looking for a bike that you can commute or ride for on paved and semi-paved surfaces. Do not recommend for any substantial offroad riding, but the bike is wonderful for sandy/gravel detours that are difficult to navigate on a traditional road bike. I have not had this much fun riding a bike since I was 10 yrs old.

        Comments:

Overall a great bike. I wanted a general purpose utility bike that could be a speedy city bike and generally a jack of all trades. I wanted something fast, rugged, comfortable and practical. Mountain bikes and hybirds all seemed a little too clunky and slow, and pure road bikes seemed too "heads-down" and dainty to be really practical for riding in the pot-hole and cobblestone infested NYC. Cyclocross seemed the perfect compromise and the Specialized TriCross was a sharp looking bike at a very nice price point. Overall I have been very happy with my purchase. I have seen absolutely no signs of front fork "brake shudder" which some online reviewers complained about with previous gen's of the Specialized TriCross, but I did find the front derailleur to be very flimsy and defective. For a bicycle which bills itself as rugged and capable of off-road abuse the front derailleur on this bike was shockingly thin and elastic. It never shifted properly from the time I left the store. I brought it in for adjustments three times before insisting on a new front derailleur. [...] replaced the defective Shimano 2300 derailleur with a beefier Sora derailleur and the TriCross has been great ever since. Maybe I got a dud derailleur from a bad batch and it was a one-off freak thing, but I would be careful to ride the bike first and inquire about the repair/replacement policy for defective parts on new bikes before buying one of these from anyone. Other than that it has been everything I hoped it would be. I would also recommend changing over to a set of city slicks if you plan on riding primarily in and around NYC. I did and was very happy about my decision. I liked the stock Burrough CX tires but found them too sluggish for asphalt riding, I'm sure they're great for trails and mixed riding surfaces though.

          Comments:

I purchased this bicycle as a universal all around bike. I have been riding a well made mountain bike for about 5 years before that it was x-mart junk. After doing some research a cyclocross seemed the way to go. I use my bike to commute to work about 6 months a year (currently looking into proper equipment to expand that time such as clothing and such). I have had the bike a short time but, it has been great on rail trails, single tracks, and on the road. I realize it is not a road bike but, much better suited for riding distance than a mountain bike. I could not be happier with this purchase. I probably could have went to about at least six other lbs closer to home. I originally seen on Internet and called because of price. [...] I shopped around for about 3 months talked to countless lbs. [...]
