This is my first mountain bike, my wife bought it for me for Christmas though I picked it out. I started just riding once a week and now I am riding 5 days a week as I am definitely hooked. The Hardrock 29 Sport Disc has been a great starter bike for me. It was a lot of bang for the buck, and a great bike for me because I didn't know if I would really us it or not. It has worked wonderfully for me so far, with my only real complaints being the pedals and the rear brakes. They brakes take a lot of maintenance to keep them from being noisy, and they return to noisy very quickly. My pedals broke pretty quickly which was fine because I am now switching to clipless pedals. Now that I am more into mountain biking on rough terrain, I want to upgrade the tires, but the original ones have been adequate. I am starting to feel the limitations of my front shock when jumping, and it may be due to how I have it set. Bottom line, I highly recommend this bike. Especially for someone who is just getting into the sport and wants to start off with a really nice bike.

Went into the [...] location to get a 2012, all sold out ( atleast the color I wanted ) so went with the 2013 Flat Black with Red accent. First of all the bike looks great, the setup of the color, thick 29" tires and the small red accent on the handles all works great. There isnt a day that I get some type of compliment on the look of the bike when I have it on my rack. Took it out to on a trail the next day and I couldn't be any happier. Its a great bike. The only thing im looking into right now is planning on changing the pedals to some clip ons. And maybe getting a little more comfortable of a seat. Go check it out, test drive it. !!!

I initially had concerns with the 80mm front fork travel but have not had any issues. The brake cable got caught under the front fork lockout and rubbed it raw. This was replaced by [...] in [...] at not cost and they re-routed it so it won't get caught in the future.Great for a novice mountain biker.

I looked at many different bikes not really having a clue about bikes now days. The last time I road was when I was a kid. I took the bike out for a test ride and loved it. Went on a 16 mile ride the next day after not riding a bike in 14 years and it was very comfortable and easy to ride. I love this bike and its definatly worth the price.

I've had my Rockhopper Sport for the past two weeks and have loved every minute. I had been looking for months reading everything I could and slowly began to eliminate my choices between Mongoose, Diamondback, Giant, BAMF, and then Haro. I found a bike shop which let me test drive the bikes above and over the course of two days I kept coming back to the Rockhopper. The shop let me test ride a $4K Rockhopper and even though that bike was way off my target range ($850), for my needs there was nothing that bike could offer that was better than the Sport. The biggest clincher were the Avid brakes. I had commented on the competitions brakes (Tektro) which I felt were noisy but the sales staff mentioned that it could have been the set up on these bikes. However, the Rockhopper Sport is and has been spot on for brakes which are phenomenal even though they are not hydraulic. The Haro was a bit more expensive with hydraulic brakes but were no better than the mechanical ones on the Sport. Also, the steering geometry was not ideal for casual riding and felt more downhill race oriented with its shorter and angle of attack handles. Don't get me wrong, the Haro is one nice bike and is a worthy 2nd choice for those in hilly areas who want more control. With the tires setup for mountain biking, I'm sure I would change them immediately if I were near steep roads as these tires are fat and wide and can if pushed lose grip. They are not ideal for fast cornering. What they were made for is crushing anything (within reason) within its path. I must say that when there is a possiblity of crushing something, I head right for it and this bike will obliterate it. I'm 6'0 and about 193 lbs. and have yet to change the seat nor is it my top priority. I only ride 3-8 miles at a time and while my butt does get sore, it's not at the point where it's a problem. Plus the seat looks nice and has padding. If I do make any changes, I'm considering modifying the crankset to a Shimano XT Hollotech or an SRAM Noir XC. The bike shifts fine and likely for my needs I won't need to do so, but I would imagine these changes would elevate the bike to an even higher level than where it currently resides. In closing I am very content and many others have commented on the bike. Some even thought that I had paid in excess of $2k for the bike. Sometimes it feels is that's how good of a deal this bike is. I highly recommend test riding this bike before choosing a more expensive bike. The configuration on the Rockhopper Sport is by far the best bike in the $1K and even beyond price range.
