To keep your Avid brakes functioning properly, check your pads for wear and replace them when necessary. Organic compound pads are softer for quieter braking and increased modulation, while metallic pads dissipate heat better and last a bit longer. Two pads, one retraction spring and a mounting bolt are included (enough for one brake) in each pad set. And, choose an aluminum backing plate if you're really counting the grams.

The BB30 standard opened up design possibilities for frames. Adapting it for Shimano cranks takes a special machined aluminum threaded bottom bracket that threads into itself. Ours are finished with CeramicSpeed Bearings. You have two choices in terms of bearings. The first choice is our low drag, long life standard bearing with hardened-steel races and our super-round CeramicSpeed Balls. The second choice is our coated bearing, which uses those same balls installed on coated, hardened-steel races for longer life and less bearing drag. This bottom bracket works with cranks that have 24mm spindles. Bottom brackets have several variables, but within that, CeramicSpeed standard Bearings typically have frictional drag of 0.3-0.4 watts per set. That's in the range of a 75% drag reduction compared to standard bottom brackets. That's thanks to balls that are 100% smoother and 15% harder than the ceramic competition. The CeramicSpeed Bearings last at least three times longer than other bearings. Coated Bearings see another big bump in performance. The coated races see a 50% drag reduction and an improvement in bearing life of 60%. Performance can be tuned by changing the grease. All Round Grease comes installed, but can be changed for lower drag TT and Track Grease, or higher durability LongLife Grease, which adds a bit of drag but stays in the bearing when riding through messy conditions. The Service Course SL-80 provides comfortable and efficient positions on the bar tops, brake hoods, or down in the drops. The bar allows a neutral wrist position on the drops and a flat brake-hood transition. This minimizes the need for up-rotated bars. Drops are angled outward by 4 degrees, reducing wrist strain. Named after its 80mm reach to bring the hoods and control levers back where you want them. You really can have it all—the new WCS C220 stem rivals the performance of the revolutionary C260 stem design, but it's quicker and easier to install and remove, thanks to a press-fit handlebar clamp interface and forward-facing hardware. First proven on the Ritchey TRAIL stem, the C220 handlebar clamp design creates a more secure interface by wrapping a full 220-degrees over the handlebar. Bolt forces are aligned with the clamp so that the stem body 'embraces' the handlebar, which is less prone to damaging lightweight bars. This clamp design allows for a lighter faceplate and stem body with no sacrifice in strength or stiffness.
